Investigating Ku-band Up-Link Interference from Terrestrial Microwaves on Satellite Reception

In this study, we investigate Lebanese Multipoint Video Distribution Systems (MVDS) interference on GEO satellites. MVDS is a telecommunications technology utilizing microwave radio waves for video and audio signal distribution. MVDS plays a crucial role in providing cable television services, particularly in rural areas and to businesses without traditional cable providers. We address the challenge of shared frequency bands between MVDS's microwave point-to-point links (MPTP) and geostationary orbit (GEO) communication systems, examining potential signal interference. To exemplify the impact of such interference, we conducted a case study on its effects in Beirut city on GEO orbit communication systems, considering factors like antenna positioning and orientation. The paper provides guidelines for interference avoidance. Real- world implications are explored to offer insights for managing signal interference, ensuring the effective operation of telecommunications services.
