Effect of Dehydration Using Glycerin on Electrical Properties of Vegetable-Based-Oil

This paper reports on the impact of dehydration using glycerin on the electrical properties of vegetable-based oil after an esterification reaction. The experimental sample oil, containing a specific amount of distilled water, was treated with reagent glycerin and glycerin extracted from the esterification reaction. The findings indicate that (i) AC dielectric breakdown strength (Fb) and volume resistivity were enhanced by the elimination of moisture in the vegetable-based oil ester, (ii) viscosity remained unaffected by moisture content, (iii) the combined use of reagent glycerin and extracted glycerin effectively removed moisture from the vegetable-based oil, and (iv) reagent glycerin exhibited superior effectiveness in both moisture removal and improvement of electrical properties compared to extracted glycerin.
