Improving Indoor Air Quality Using a Box Fan Filter in a Navajo Nation Home - Healthy Hooghan Project

The Healthy Hooghan Project aims to assess and improve indoor air quality and overall health conditions in Navajo Nation homes. Baseline testing involves comprehensive assessments of various indoor environmental factors, including air quality, moisture levels, temperature, ventilation, and presence of contaminants. Data was collected using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and instruments. The results from testing provided valuable insights into the current state of indoor environments, identifying potential health risks and areas for improvement. High levels of indoor pollutants, inadequate ventilation, and excess moisture were observed in some homes, indicating a need for interventions to enhance living conditions and mitigate health hazards. Additionally, the baseline testing phase involved surveying occupants to gather information on lifestyle habits, occupancy patterns, and potential sources of indoor pollution. This information was crucial in understanding the factors contributing to poor indoor air quality and devising targeted strategies for improvement. This paper focuses on the measurement of Particulate Matter (PM2.5) level using PurpleAir in a Navajo Nation home and the decreased effect of PM2.5 concentration using a Box Fan Filter. The testing phase of the Healthy Hooghan Project provides a critical foundation for understanding the current indoor environment and designing evidence-based interventions to promote healthier living conditions in Navajo Nation homes.
