Facilitating Student Election Engagement: A User-Centric Electronic Voting System Application for the National University of Manila

Election is essential in educational institutions for student government bodies. This is an opportunity given for students to elect their representative and student officials in managing student affairs. Technological developments can replace traditional election procedures with an electronic voting system application to address inefficiency, manual and time- consuming counting of ballots, and inaccuracy of results that can involve manipulation. This study aims to design and develop an electronic voting system application for the National University of Manila, named NU Vote, to address these problems. The primary objective of this system is to provide a platform that can facilitate a fair, secure, and transparent electoral process that enables eligible students to elect their chosen representatives. The system aims to achieve a secure login and registration process, voting platform security, and student access control. A data- driven prototyping approach is used by studying and integrating features from other systems, including design elements from the National University to align with the university's color palette, logo, and other design factors. During the development phase, data collection involves data gathering through user observation, document review, and system analysis, which is then utilized to enhance the system's features and design, with the basic prototype being created using the Figma platform, software tailored for UI/UX design. The primary landing page hosts login and registration portals for the users or students, whereas the student interface showcases real-time vote counting and ballot navigation. The objective of the system is achieved in this prototype development; however, the system reveals an area for improvement and further development.
