Transforming and Analysing Oceanographic Data with Oracle Analytics Cloud: Insights from the World Ocean Database

The environment is under severe threat from climate change, pollution, deforestation and biodiversity loss. Addressing these challenges requires collecting and analysing environmental data to gain actionable insights. This paper explores the use of Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) to analyse data from the World Ocean Database (WOD), a comprehensive collection of oceanographic data. By converting the WOD data from its native netCDF format to CSV, we show how OAC can be used to access, prepare and visualize this data. The study highlights the potential of cloud-based analytics platforms to better understand oceanographic trends and support informed decision-making in marine science.
