Verification of Converter Valve Tower Fittings of Ultra-high Voltage Converter Station

The valve tower is an important component of the valve hall of the converter station, and the valve tower fittings are the devices for electrical connection and fixed in the valve tower, which play a role in transferring mechanical and electrical loads and protection. Valve tower structure is complex, huge scale, the design of the relevant fittings require accurate size, reasonable structure, and flow capacity calculations, force analysis and valve tower fittings surface electric field and other studies to verify the feasibility of the design of the valve tower fittings. This paper analyzes a typical converter valve tower connection fitting, applies finite element analysis software ANSYS to simulate the mechanical properties and surface electric field distribution of the fittings, and derives the stress and electric field distribution of the fittings' structure, so as to provide a reference for the design and calibration of the valve tower fittings in future high-current converter station converter valves. The results show that the contact current and cross-section current of valve tower fittings meet the requirements; the maximum stress is concentrated in the contact part between fixed end connecting rod and clamp, and the maximum value is 35.42 MPa, which is smaller than the maximum allowable stress of 275 MPa, and the mechanical properties of the valve tower fittings meet the design requirements; the maximum surface electric field intensity of the valve tower fittings is concentrated in the edge of the terminal plate, and the maximum value is 2 kV/cm, which meets the design requirements.
