Redefining Health Solutions: The Critical Role of Data in Policy Making

The global shift to data-driven policies in healthcare is an essential reflection of the increasingly complex nature in which health services are provided in most modern societies. Evidence-based policy making has emerged as a key approach in which policy development is informed by rigorous research and data, ultimately improving health outcomes and addressing systemic issues. Public and community data, including electronic health records (EHRs), are crucial elements in shaping healthcare policies at both macro and micro levels. The following review dis-cusses the use of public and community data in healthcare policy development throughout the United States, India, and Germany. Besides successes in such data-driven policies, limitations pertain to issues on data privacy, interoperability concerns, and a general need for further research and evaluation.
