Revolutionizing Piano Practice: A Game-Based Learning Rhythm Game to Motivate and Support Learners

Learning piano is a popular activity and hobby for individuals worldwide. However, many learners experience hurdles that cause them to discontinue their studies, such as a decline in motivation and feeling directionless when practicing. To assist piano learners in practicing and regaining their motivation, this study aims to develop a rhythm game for Android devices that uses a physical MIDI keyboard based on the game-based learning concept to increase learner's piano abilities through entertaining and engaging way. The contribution of this research lies in testing the feasibility of using a rhythm game with a physical MIDI keyboard to support piano learners' practice. The GDLC method was implemented for the development process. Based on usability testing, which has the success rate of 100%, this study concludes with the successful development of the game, with challenging game modes, levels, and other game elements, and has successfully enhanced players’ motivation for practicing piano.
