Performance optimization on CXL products using in-house modeling and simulation toolchain

This paper presents a comprehensive, end-to-end workflow, spanning from software simulation analysis to correlation between the software model and the actual hardware performance. This study compares the performance numbers obtained using the in-house CXL device software simulation tool to the actual performance of a physical CXL device connected to a host server. The first section examines critical parameters that govern the performance of the CXL controller using an in-house CXL model software simulator. The second section discusses the considerations for evaluating the performance of CXL controller through detailed CXL protocol trace analysis and CXL model software simulations.
