Upper Bound on the BEP of IRS-Aided Downlink NOMA System with SIC Errors

Next-generation communication envisaged high reliability while serving multiple users to cater to service quality requirements and massive connectivity. This paper investigates the average bit error rate (BER) performance of the intelligent reconfigurable surface (IRS)-assisted downlink two-user non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems in the presence of imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) errors. In the proposed IRS-aided NOMA system, the base station broadcasts the information to several users via passive reflectors to exploit the inherent benefits of green communication. The performance of such a system is analyzed in terms of the upper bound and asymptotic expression of average BER to obtain a better insight into the system. In the presence of SIC errors, the system outperforms the conventional NOMA system, and analytical results corroborated with the Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, the efficacy of the power allocation coefficient on the system performance is investigated.
