Deep Learning Approaches for Improving Near-Field Automotive Radar Sensing and Imaging

In this research, we investigate how deep learning techniques may be used to improve the sensing and imaging capabilities of near-field car radar. High precision, real-time processing, and flexibility to different environmental conditions are essential for near-field radar sensing to be used in autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems. In this study, we suggest a technique that uses deep learning to analyze radar data more effectively. Here, we describe three fundamental algorithms: one for preprocessing radar data, another for object recognition using the Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD), and a third for super-resolving radar images. Noise is removed and normalization is performed on the radar data in the preprocessing step to prepare it for deep learning. Real-time object recognition is handled by an SSD, while radar picture super-resolution is handled by a deep convolutional neural network. Metrics like as detection accuracy, false positive rate, false negative rate, precision, recall, F1 score, and inference speed are used to evaluate performance. The accuracy and processing time of the proposed approach are compared to those of six established methods: RANSAC, Hough Transform, SIFT, SURF, ORB, and FAST. The experiments show that the suggested approach is more precise than the state-of-the-art methods. The suggested technique also has a processing time benefit, making it suitable for real-time applications. Positive outcomes have been seen when deep learning methods were applied to vehicle radar for sensing and imaging in the near-field. To meet the stringent criteria of autonomous driving systems, the suggested technique considerably improves accuracy while keeping efficiency high. This study adds to the continued development of safer and more economical autonomous cars, delivering a viable solution for near-field radar perception.
