A Comprehensive Review and Novel Approach for Detection of Zero Day Vulnerabilities

The research community has placed a greater emphasis on developing a wide, reliable, and effective intrusion detection system (IDS) because of the increasing cyberattacks over the past few decades. Traditional signature-based detection methods are ineffective in finding zero day attacks because the signatures of these attacks are typically not known in advance. Although smart community networks greatly improve people’s comfort and convenience, they also raise security threats by making private information and system weaknesses more accessible to hackers. The issue has gained increased attention due to the rise of zero day attacks, which have the potential to exploit undiscovered vulnerabilities in the intrusion detection system (IDS) to defeat it. A cyberattack that exploits a software vulnerability on the same day that it is made publicly known is referred to as a zero day attack. Because the vulnerability is quickly exploited after discovery, the name "zero day" describes the fact that engineers have no time to address it. Since, zero day attacks take advantage of vulnerabilities that the software vendor is unaware of and has not yet patched, it might be difficult to identify them. This review paper keeps the track of various detection method for Zero Day attack and suggesting novel approaches for zero day attack detection.
