Design and Parametric Analysis of Volumetric SIW Antenna Embedded with Parasitic Elements for C,X Band Applications

The development of 5G systems, the Internet of Things (IoT) and improvements in aerial radiating in GHz high frequency spectrum bands are mostly attributed to Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technology. This paper focused on design and parametrics of a volumetric antenna(Microstrip Patch) with parasitic elements and metal vias effects utilizing SIW technology. The suggested antenna uses FR4 (Flame Retardant) as the base material and has the dimensions are 38.5mm x 85mm x 1.6mm. The microstrip patch SIW antenna neighboring sides, two rectangular shaped parasitic patches with metal vias are added. The electromagnetic field distribution is impacted by these parasitic patch elements. Accordingly certain metrics were noted as a result of the electromagnetic field distribution being impacted by these parasitic patch elements. The center frequencies of the two operational bands are 7.20GHz for the first band, which has a reflection coefficient of 21.18dB and 9.36GHz for the second band, which has a reflection coefficient of 27.08dB. The maximum gains are 7.1dB and 6.2dB respectively. SIW technology is employed in the proposed microstrip patch antenna using SIW technology for dual band applications in the C and X bands.
