Investigating the Effects of Load Variation on the Transient Stability of an IEEE 9-Bus System Using the Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E)

Load fluctuations significantly influence transient stability in power systems. This study investigates how varying load conditions affect the transient stability of an IEEE 9-bus system using the Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E). Transient stability, defined as the ability of a power system to maintain synchronism during substantial disturbances, is critical for operational reliability. The research employs time-domain numerical techniques to analyze changes in rotor angle, frequency, speed, and voltage as load variations are incremented and decremented from the initial load value. Findings reveal that increases in load result in decreased rotor angle, frequency, speed, and voltage, while reductions in load lead to their respective increases. The analysis underscores the system's capacity to stabilize following significant load disturbances, highlighting the importance of understanding these dynamics for effective power system management. Future work may explore automation methodologies for enhanced stability analysis.
