Performance Analysis of 31 Level MLI based Standalone PV system with Modified Incremental Conductance, Perturb and Observe Methods

This paper presents a voltage regulator based on the perturb and observe (P&O) method, along with a capacitor compensator (CC) circuit, designed for a multi-level DC-link (MLDCL) inverter with 31 levels of asymmetric switch diodes. In order to achieve a constant DC voltage from PV panels for MLDCL in a standalone PV system, the P&O method is used to not only obtain the voltage but also provide maximum power at full load. The results show that P&O can generate stable DC voltages despite varying loads and environmental conditions due to its consistent 230 V output. Additionally, CC is employed to minimize voltage surges at the output when powering inductive loads. The IEEE 519 standard effectively gets rid of spikes and decreases the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltage and current to below 5%. Instead of utilizing the perturb and observe technique for MPPT, a method called incremental conductance is being employed to decrease the settling times of the output voltages and environmental oscillations.
