Lighting as a Means to Accentuate and Encourage The Reuse of Buildings in the Public Space: the Case of Historic Building of the Athens Home for the Elderly

Is there a connection between a building's function and its façade lighting? Is lighting capable of awakening the collective memory of the city? Inspired by these questions, the research focuses on the upgrade of a building’s façade through lighting, and investigates the existence of a correlation between a building’s architectural identity and the type of façade lighting chosen for it. In this context, this research attempts to explore whether it is possible to accentuate architecture and breathe new life into abandoned spaces using artificial lighting and encourage the reuse of buildings.
