An IR-UWB Pulse Generator Using True Time Delay Architecture for Phased-Array RADAR Applications

This paper presents an Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wideband Pulse Generator using True Time Delay architecture for Phased-Array RADAR applications in 130 nm CMOS technology, generating a logic-level pulse with eight oscillations per pulse. The circuit design uses PLLs with a frequency divider, delay circuits to control the delay and one charge pump per oscillation, current mirror circuits controlling amplitude oscillations at the output, and delay cells controlling edge combiner circuits. The simulation results shows an output pulse amplitude of ~30 mV at 100 MHz pulse repetition frequency (PRF), producing a mean pulse duration of 600ps and equivalent to the L band operation frequency. The full circuit block of the pulse generator occupies an area of 0.016 mm 2.
