Manufacturers’ and Importers’ Opinions about Finnish LVD and EMCD Market Surveillance

The Safety Technology Authority of Finland (TUKES) is a state agency operating under the aegis of the Finnish Ministry of Trade and Industry and is responsible for providing surveillance, development and safety communication services in its fields of operation as provided by law. TUKES has carried out the market surveillance of electrical products since the end of 1995. Focus has been on safety supervision but EMC surveillance, too, has been regularly carried out. In this study, the opinions of Finnish manufacturers and importers of electrical equipment were sought. Matters covered related to the existing safety and EMC market surveillance mechanism and also TUKES’s methods. The method used was a telephonic survey. The opinion poll was directed to the companies against which TUKES had been compelled to take measures. In the electrical field, a total of 51 persons were interviewed, with a control group of 50 persons, representing companies who had at sometime had their operations commented on by TUKES.
