Use of 2D Models to Characterise Some Features of a Mode Stirred Reverberation Chamber

This paper presents a 2D approach of the simulation of the electric field in oversized cavity. Different techniques are presented : the modal approach, the finite element method and ray theory; each method has its advantage and its drawback but all are complementary. In a first part, we remember the modal approach, then a finite difference method is presented; taken into account the finite conductivity of the walls the quality factor can be deduced from simulation and an elliptical stirrer is also introduced. In the following part, the optical approach is described, some results are compared with the previous ones and a statistical analysis of the result is presented. The last part of this paper introduces some conclusions and perspectives on this work.
