Analyzing the Influence of Timing Advance (TA) and Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) on LTE Geolocation

This paper presents a preliminary study on the influence of wireless signal parameters on LTE geolocation. The motivation behind this research is to develop a simple trilateration algorithm that offers faster computation times and cost-effectiveness while maintaining acceptable geolocation accuracy. In this study, two key parameters, Timing Advance (TA) and Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) are measured and collected over the line-of-sight (LOS) distance between the serving eNodeB and the User Equipment (UE) which in our case is measurement tool via drive test. The results indicate that further investigation may be necessary into the Signal-to-Interference-Noise-Ratio (SINR), Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ), antenna direction angle and azimuth, and drive test across various geographical areas. This continued research aims to enhance the algorithm and model achieving improved accuracy in LTE geolocation.
