Development of Oceanographic Acoustic Modelling Tools for Streamlined Transmission Loss Analysis

Realistic modelling of the underwater acoustic transmission properties is central several engineering technologies, such as sonars. The current approach for acoustic modelling relies on manually gathering data from a collection of online repositories, creating specialised bathymetric and environment (ENV) files and applying one of the standard tools (such as BELLHOP or KRAKEN). In this article, we present the development of a numerically efficient gridded dataset and a CLI-based software that provides a streamline workflow for performing acoustic modelling. We present a detailed review of the data sources along with the discussion of other key aspects of the developed application.
