Clearing Model of Power Spot Market Considering Gas-Electricity Coupling

Gas-fired power plants need to coordinate the relationship between gas consumption and power generation in power spot market. The day-ahead declared quantity may significantly deviate from the actual value, leading to constraints from both sides. This significantly impacts the efficiency and economic viability of gas-fired power plants. This paper proposes a power spot market clearing model considering gas-electricity coupling. Firstly, the Monte Carlo simulation is used to simulate the fluctuations of gas sources supply. Based on an Optimal Gas Adjustment (OGA) model, the available gas amount at the nodes where the gas power plants are located is determined and converted into the corresponding maximum output limits. Subsequently, a market clearing model considering system operation costs, Gas Abandonment and Shortage Losses (GASL) is proposed, aiming to minimize generation costs while coordinating the gas supply with the gas-fired power plant’s output. Case study are conducted on the IEEE 118-bus system and a 21- node natural gas network. It shows that the proposed model can find the optimal gas supply regulation for each node in the gas network. The market clearing model can minimize the GASL at the expense of a slight increase in generation costs.
