Research and application of new self-healing low-voltage film capacitors

This research presents the development of a novel self-healing low-voltage film capacitor, designed to address the challenges of heat dissipation in demanding electrical environments. The innovation lies in the transformation of the capacitor’s element core into a through-hole structure, significantly enhancing thermal management by leveraging the ‘chimney effect’ to facilitate natural air convection and maintain lower operating temperatures compared to traditional designs. Extensive prototype testing demonstrated a reduction in core temperature by up to $\mathbf{2 0 \%}$, directly contributing to improved reliability and extended lifespan. Rigorous industrial applications in harsh environments further confirmed the capacitor’s ability to consistently deliver high performance under elevated stress conditions, such as fluctuating voltage and extreme temperatures. These findings underscore the capacitor’s potential for widespread adoption in low-voltage power quality management systems, particularly where enhanced thermal efficiency and reliability are critical, offering a robust solution for modern power management challenges.
