Power System Angle Stability due to Optimal Renewable Energy Expansion using PSS/E Software

This research uses the Siemens PSS/E program to analyze power system angle stability with optimal wind power integration in the IEEE 9-bus system. The primary objective is to research the system’s dynamic behavior under various conditions, including renewable energy integration and transmission line failures. Using Evolutionary Programming, the research identifies the optimal location and capacity for wind power, ensuring system stability. The analysis considers current load and generation profiles, stability margins, and potential fault scenarios. Once optimal parameters are determined, PSS/E models and simulates the IEEE 9-bus system with the proposed wind power additions. Dynamic simulations cover normal operations, sudden wind power addition, and transmission line faults, focusing on rotor angle stability. Results show that with proper planning and optimization, the IEEE 9-bus system remains stable even with significant wind power integration. This underscores the importance of strategic planning and optimization, supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy and the transition to cleaner energy sources.
