Mathematical Modeling of UPFC based Multi-Machine System to improve the transient stability and damping oscillation

Stability is essential for modern power systems, particularly for transitory and minor disturbances, where complexity is growing at an alarming rate. When there is a defect or a large disturbance, transient stability is an extremely important factor in maintaining stability. For the purpose of enhancing transient stability and damping oscillation, In this paper the similarities and differences between static Var compensator (SVC) and UPFC. Tests were conducted to determine whether or not a SVC that was coupled to the exciter and/or governor was effective in dampening the electromechanical oscillations of an isolated synchronous generator. One of the devices that is utilized in power transmission systems is the UPFC device, which belongs to the family of shunt and Series FACTS, which stands for flexible alternating current transmission system. Through the utilization of MATLAB/SIMULINK software, the intended model was put through its paces by means of a multi-machine system that included four machines and six buses. UPFC solutions appear to be superior to SVC solutions, according to the results that were collected.
