Speed Control of Switched Reluctance Motor Using Double Switch Quasi-Z Source High-Gain DC-DC Converter

This paper introduces an innovative SRM drive system that incorporates a Double Switch Quasi-Z-Source (DSQZS) high-gain DC-DC converter to boost energy efficiency and enhance performance. The system is powered primarily by a 12V battery in combination with the DSQZS converter, which elevates the DC-link voltage required for optimal motor function, particularly under fluctuating loads and transient states. A secondary high-voltage battery is integrated to extend the operational range, with the smaller battery recharging the larger one when the motor is inactive. This configuration helps alleviate range anxiety and optimizes energy transfer within the drive system. A hysteresis controller manages the switching pulses, ensuring stable and efficient operation. The proposed system enhances both control precision and stability, while minimizing energy loss, making it suitable for high-performance motor applications. To regulate the speed of the SRM, a PI controller is used due to its simplicity and effectiveness across various control scenarios. This integrated approach addresses typical SRM challenges, such as torque ripple and nonlinear behavior, while ensuring accurate speed control. Simulations carried out in MATLAB/Simulink confirm that the system achieves stable speed regulation and significantly reduces torque ripple. The findings underline the potential of the proposed method to improve dynamic performance and reliability, making it well-suited for industrial settings where both efficiency and compact design are essential.
