Yagi-Uda Antenna for Phased Array System as Receiver in Communication Satellite

Phased array systems offer advantages in terms of flexibility and signal adjustment capability, allowing electronic signal steering and enhancement without the need for physical movement of the antenna. In this paper, the planar Yagi-Uda antenna is chosen as an element of the phased array due to its compact, lightweight, and easy-to-manufacture characteristics and high gain, making it ideal for space applications with constraints on weight and space. A sub-array as an element of the phased array is then designed and fabricated using a substrate with a relative permittivity constant of 2.2, a thickness of 1.57 mm, and a simple structure with a small size of 48 × 58 mm. The simulation result showed impedance bandwidth with a return loss of less than −10 dB, with a bandwidth of 138 MHz. Moreover, the proposed antenna achieved a gain of 11,90 dBi for a frequency of 12.55 GHz.
