Mine Guard: Manually Controlled Surveillance Robot with Gas Detection for Mine Safety

Since dangerous gases like methane, carbon monoxide, and sulphur dioxide are present in underground mines, it is essential to ensure worker safety. These dangers are made worse by the restricted areas and poor visibility seen in mining operations. Conventional safety procedures expose workers to hazardous circumstances and are frequently dependent on human intervention. They are also sluggish. With an ESP32-CAM module and an MQ-4 gas sensor for real-time video monitoring and methane gas detection in mines, this study suggests MineGuard, a manually operated mobile surveillance robot, as a solution to these problems. In rugged terrain, the technology allows for hazard detection, continuous surveillance, and remote control via Wi-Fi, The suggested method takes a preventive approach to monitoring environmental conditions in mines and lessens the requirement for human presence in dangerous locations. The work describes the design, installation, and testing of the MineGuard system, emphasising how its real-time surveillance and gas detection features may significantly improve underground mine safety.
