Innovative Reverse Vending Machine Featuring Proximity, Inductive and Capacitive Sensors

Automated Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) offer an innovative approach to promoting sustainable waste management practices through recycling. This paper describes the design and implementation of a recycling material sorting machine (RVM) that makes use of proximity, inductive, and capacitive sensors to precisely detect and categorize recyclable items. A servo motor is used to assure effective material collection. The NodeMCU microcontroller, which powers the system, allows for real-time connectivity with cloud platforms for user engagement, remote monitoring, and data tracking. The RVM lowers waste and promotes environmental conservation by rewarding recycling with reclaimed goods. The machine's ability to identify a broad variety of materials and independently manage the recycling process is demonstrated by the experimental results, underscoring the possibility of its widespread use in urban contexts.
