An Overview of Bibliometric Analysis and Field Surveys of Energy Consumption and Thermal Comfort in Public Housing: A Case Study of Sector-22, Chandigarh

With an emphasis on Sector 22, Chandigarh, India, this study outlines the relationship between energy consumption and thermal comfort in public housing and further exploring their influence on building efficiency. A thorough climate analysis is conducted at the outset of the research utilizing Climate Consultant Software 6.0 and Psychrometric Charts to understand the current climatic conditions. Subsequently, a bibliometric analysis is carried out utilizing R-software to provide a quantitative evaluation of the extant literature, pinpointing critical elements impacting thermal comfort, areas requiring more investigation, research gaps and trends in urban areas. This preliminary examination focuses on important authors, journals, and publications that have influenced the discussions around energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Comprehensive field surveys are then conducted to collect data on residents' consumption trends in real time. Through the integration of climate analysis, bibliometric results and field surveys, the study attempts to identify main climate factors, potential research gaps and important variables that affect thermal comfort by utilizing the primary data. Furthermore, the study overviews the impact of occupants' behavior, energy use pattern, building orientation, ventilation, and resident profiles on thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the unit. This thorough approach offers a nuanced understanding of the ways in which various attributes affect thermal comfort as well as energy consumption in public housing, offering valuable insights for the future studies.
