Laboratory Investigation of Video Call Quality Metrics using ViNR and ViWiFi

5G networks emerged with the aim of meeting the new demand for services in the market, which requires greater data demand, low latency and high capacity. The Fifth Generation of mobile communication creates new opportunities for improvements in data exchange and higher quality in video and voice services when compared to legacy networks. In this context, two new video calling technologies have emerged to meet this need, Video over New Radio (ViNR) and Video over WiFi (ViWiFi). However, the research on both functionalities is scarce and a more comprehensive analysis than the existing ones is pertinent to ensure that these applications constantly evolve, improving the user experience. Therefore, a laboratory analysis was carried out to investigate the main Quality of Service (QoS) metrics of video calling through experiments with ViNR and ViWiFi, in a telecommunications laboratory with a controlled environment, without interference, using specialized equipment. This research shows that the results satisfies the requirement for ViNR and ViWiFi services, with the ViNR performing better than ViWiFi. The mean video jitter for ViNR presented values $\mathbf{2 6 . 8 5 \%}$ lower than in the ViWiFi scenario, while the mean audio jitter of ViNR presented a reduction of $\mathbf{9 9 . 8 3 \%}$ when compared to ViWiFi jitter values. In general, ViNR showed higher performance compared to ViWiFi and the results suggest that the use of the 5G Core architecture improved the reduction of jitter, call interference and call reception delay.
