Common-Mode Free 1-ϕ/3-ϕ Combo Non-isolated Battery Charger with a Wide Output Voltage Range

As the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow, there is an increasing demand for compact and highly efficient EV charging solutions. These chargers must support a wide output voltage range (from 200 to 1000 V) to accommodate the varying battery voltages of different EV types. This paper presents a novel non-isolated battery charger topology that is compatible with 1-ϕ/3-ϕ grid, which addresses safety concerns associated with large common mode (CM) currents and at the same time it ensures compatibility with a wide voltage range of EV battery packs. The discrete-time models of the proposed charger are derived and employed in a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm to control effectively. The MATLAB simulations and real-time experimental studies are presented to verify the operation and performance of the proposed charger.
