Sensorless Oriented Control of PWM Rectifier using Kalman Filter and Proportional-Resonant Regulators

The PWM Rectifier is highly regarded for its ability to control a constant DC voltage while maintaining an ideal unity power factor at grid’s terminals. The prevalent technique to achieve these objectives is Voltage Oriented Control (VOC), which relies on synchronous frame current regulation. This paper introduces a novel sensorless method for oriented control, leveraging grid-voltage estimation via a Discrete-Time Linear Kalman Filter. The phase angle is obtained by these estimations, and it is used for current regulation in the αβ-stationary frame with Proportional-Resonant regulators. Detailed design procedures for the Kalman Filter and regulators are provided. The effectiveness of the proposed solution is validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental results.
