Superconductor Joint Methods and AC Losses in Electric Machine Applications

Superconducting materials offer promising benefits for electric machine applications, as their low loss characteristics can provide improved performance over traditional conductors. However, joining superconductors poses a challenge, as joints need to preserve superconductivity and their low loss benefits. This study presents a comparison of superconducting joint methods. The most promising joint method was applied to evaluate alternating current losses of superconductors, subjected to transport currents and external magnetic fields. The study also presents the fabrication and preliminary testing of a single-phase superconducting induction machine.
