A Novel Design Methodology of Multi-Purpose Control System in a Multi-Input-Single-Output Converter Considering Coupling Effect

To utilize multiple energy sources with different characteristics which aims at optimizing operating time for electric mobility applications, integrated multi-input-single-output (MISO) converters are preferred due to their few components if compared to multiple single-input-single-output (SISO) converters. However, the control design of MISO converters are difficult if each output variable is impacted by multiple control variables instead of one in SISO converters. The decoupling matrix method modifies the coupled control-to-output transfer functions and designs the compensators based on it. Although simple, it has limitations in ensuring high accuracy, possibly resulting in large deviation from the objective characteristics. This paper proposes a straightforward and more accurate design methodology for control loops. Specifically, the compensator of one loop is designed with the simplified transfer function which results in the actual transfer function of another loop, enabling the design of its compensator. At last, the actual transfer function of the first loop will be derived and verified. The approach is validated through comparing the experimental results of the proposed method and decoupling method using a 200 W MISO prototype.
