2-D Analytical Modeling of Consequent-Pole Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Machines With Outer Rotor Core

This paper presents a two-dimensional (2-D) analytical model for calculating no-load performance characteristics of a Consequent-Pole Surface Permanent Magnet (CP-SPM) machine with outer rotor structure. The effect of stator slots and rotor teeth (rotor saliency) are modeled by surface currents, and Laplace/Poisson equations are solved on a machine with slotless stator and cylindrical rotor. The accuracy of the calculated radial and tangential flux components, cogging torque and Back-EMF are verified by the finite element method (FEM). The laboratory prototype of the case study is built and tested for further verifications.
