Double-Integral Ramp Tracking Current Regulator Architecture for Switched Reluctance Machines

This paper presents a novel dynamic current regulator design for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives, capable of tracking ramp and step commands with zero steady-state error. The proposed controller features a double integral structure, that is particularly suitable for tracking quasi-trapezoidal current references typically used for reluctance machines. Enhanced closed-loop command tracking especially with ramp commands along with improved disturbance rejection is achieved through this control scheme. A comprehensive linear analysis is provided, offering guidelines for shaping the closed-loop command tracking frequency response. The theoretical framework is corroborated by non-linear simulation results obtained from a 12-slot, 8-pole, 250W SRM, with machine parameters extracted from a finite element model. A comparative study against a proportional-integral (PI) controller demonstrates the superior performance of the proposed controller.
