Advances in Key Technologies for Novel Tandem Dual-Rotor Wind Turbine

As the single unit capacity of wind turbines continues to increase, they face severe challenges such as elevated center of gravity, increased difficulty in design, manufacturing, and operation and maintenance. In response, new wind power technologies are being actively explored both domestically and internationally. The tandem dual-rotor wind turbine, characterized by high wind energy utilization and small size and center of gravity, has gained extensive attention in recent years as it addresses the issues brought by the large-scale development of conventional units. This paper reviewed the research progress in the overall schemes of tandem dual-rotor layout methods and energy collection methods, as well as key technologies such as novel aerodynamic characteristics and advanced control techniques. It also summarized and looked forward to future research such as establishing a system-level multi-objective optimization method to optimize the overall structural scheme, developing a formula for airflow induction factors in dual-rotor systems and advancing the blade-element momentum theory for dual-rotors, thereby breaking through high-efficiency transient aerodynamic characteristic analysis techniques and further deepening the research on dual-rotor coordinated converter control and pitch control technologies.
