IoT Based Manhole and Drainage Monitoring System

This Aim: To develop a scalable, IoT -based monitoring system that enhances the safety and maintenance efficiency of urban drainage systems and manholes by providing real-time detection and alerts for blockages, hazardous gases, structural cracks, and water level fluctuations. Materials and Method: The Arduino UNO as the central processing unit, SIM900 GSM module for communication and sensors are Ultrasonic (SR-04), Tilt, Water level, MQ2 Gas, DHTII (Temperature & Humidity). The cloud-based IoT platform for data monitoring and analysis. The Integration of multiple sensors to continuously monitor manhole conditions and the data from sensors is processed by the central processing unit and transmitted via the GSM module. Real-time data is sent to a cloud platform, where it is analyzed and visualized for continuous monitoring. The automated alerts are generated and sent to authorities when anomalies are detected. Result: The system demonstrated high accuracy in detecting blockages, gas leaks, structural cracks, and abnormal water levels. It achieved a rapid response time of 3 seconds from anomaly detection to alert transmission. The cloud platform successfully managed and analyzed data from multiple monitoring units in real-time. The system was found to be cost-effective and scalable, making it suitable for large-scale urban deployment.
