Reliability modeling and analysis of k-out-of-n: F systems with self-healing components

For complex multi-component systems, which typically consist of multiple interconnected subsystems or components, reliability is crucial due to the significant losses that can result from failures. Multi-component redundant systems with self-healing properties are particularly valuable as they can utilize their inherent capabilities to mitigate or buffer impacts, thereby enhancing operational reliability. This paper draws upon mathematical reliability theory to examine a k-out-of-n system endowed with self-healing features. A reliability model that accommodates external impact environments is developed to explore its self-healing characteristics, complemented by a simulation algorithm for assessing system reliability indicators. Numerical examples are simulated and analysed using this algorithm, and a sensitivity analysis is conducted on select parameters to gauge their influence on system reliability.
