Sickle Cell Disease Patient/Provider Match Tool

Sickle cell disease (SCD) affects approximately 7.7 million individuals worldwide, primarily within the regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, and claims an estimated 376,000 lives a year from related complications. Despite its prevalence, SCD is underfunded and under-researched due to perceived unprofitability in the healthcare industry. Consequently, patients frequently encounter difficulties in finding expert providers and often receive sub-optimal treatment. To address this issue, we propose a patient-physician match tool specifically designed for SCD. This tool, provided as a mobile application, leverages machine learning to understand the clinical and behavioral situation of the patient and recommend physicians or providers who excel on various quality measures that fit the patient’s specific needs.
