Enhancing Engineering Education through DEI: A Pathway to Inclusive Future Practices

The article aims to address a wide range of topics to offer a complete and comprehensive vision of how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) can strengthen education in this area of knowledge with a view to the future. A multifaceted approach is needed to promote diversity and equity in engineering, as highlighted by Colombian researchers in the context of Latin America. This includes addressing historical and institutional barriers, increasing representation, and creating inclusive organizational cultures. The authors further emphasize the importance of operational models and stakeholder involvement in creating a culture of equity and inclusion, as demonstrated in a private university in Mexico. Another author underscores the role of meaningful learning experiences, such as the Integrative Project strategy, in fostering values, transversal competencies, and disciplinary skills in systems engineering students. These strategies collectively contribute to a more inclusive and equitable engineering field, especially to DEI strategies.
