Valve positioner control based on SHO-PID controller

As an important accessory and control core of pneumatic regulating valves, intelligent positioners play a crucial role in industrial process control. Aiming at the requirements of steady and accurate control of intelligent valve positioners and the low efficiency of PID parameter tuning, a scheme using selfish herd optimization algorithm to optimize intelligent valve positioners is proposed. Based on the physical characteristics of the pneumatic valve system, a system model was built using Simulink. A objective function was designed based on practical requirements to enhance the system's responsiveness while minimizing overshoot to the greatest extent possible. Using MATLAB and Simulink joint simulation, the PID parameters are tuned using the selfish group optimization algorithm. The test results show that for small set value changes (such as 25% of the full stroke), the system has excellent tracking performance in different stroke segments, can quickly reach the set value without overshoot; For situations where the set value changes greatly (such as 50% of the full stroke), the system can also quickly reach the set value with only slight overshoot. The simulation results show that this scheme can efficiently tune the optimal PID parameters based on the designed objective function and the designed controller has a significant effect in avoiding overshoot and speed.
