Design and optimization of a 4x4 multiplier using TSMC'S 0.18 µM CMOS technology

In digital circuit design, multipliers are essential components that perform complex multiplication operations, integral to applications such as digital signal processing, embedded systems, and computer science. This paper explores the design and optimization of a 4x4 multiplier using TSMC's 0.18 μm Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Multipliers are essential components in digital circuits, performing critical arithmetic operations that impact system performance across various applications, including digital signal processing and high-performance computing. The focus of this study is to achieve an optimal balance between area, speed, and power consumption. The design process involves the creation of basic logic gates—such as inverters, NAND gates, AND gates, and XOR gates—which are integral to constructing the multiplier. The resulting multiplier features a compact size, low power consumption, and high-speed performance, making it suitable for a range of applications from embedded systems to high-performance computing. This work not only demonstrates the effective application of advanced CMOS technology but also provides valuable insights into enhancing digital circuit efficiency.
