EMC Standards and Regulations for PLC

The worldwide efforts dealing with the EMC of PLC (PLT, BPL) and radio communication services are presented and discussed in this paper. The different approaches in Europe, the U.S. and Asia are described. Regulation in Europe should be based on the EMC Directive where ideally appropriate emission and immunity standards are applied. However, up to now, standardization efforts in Europe for the EMC of telecommunication networks under the EC Mandate M/313 have failed to solve the conflict between radiocommunication services and especially PLC. Probably, more flexibility from the side of the network operators will help.
