Optimizing Solar Road Lighting Efficiency with a Combination of Motion Sensors

Given the widely acknowledged depletion of fossil fuel reserves within the next 50-60 years, it is imperative that we expedite the transition towards renewable energy sources for power generation and consumption. Dependence on fossil fuels is unsustainable in the long term, and renewable energy stands as the most viable alternative. In a modern society reliant on continuous power supply, the necessity for this transition cannot be overstated. One prominent avenue for integrating renewable energy is through solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, particularly in street lighting infrastructure. However, traditional solar PV-based street lighting systems often lack automation, leading to inefficiencies in energy usage. Recognizing this limitation, it becomes essential to enhance these systems with intelligent features to optimize performance and conserve energy. This study proposes an innovative solution that harnesses the capabilities of various sensors—such as Passive Infrared (PIR), Hall-effect, and Light Dependent Resistors (LDR)-to enable intelligent automation in solar PV street lighting. By integrating these sensors, the system can dynamically adjust lighting levels based on environmental conditions and occupancy patterns, thereby maximizing energy efficiency while ensuring adequate illumination.
