Experimental Modeling of RF Energy Harvester and Manager for Indoor Batteryless IoT Device

This paper presents an experimental and modeling study of radiofrequency wireless power transfer for indoor batteryless IoT devices such as sensor nodes. Energy harvested from RF waves issued by a dedicated transmitter is accumulated in a small storage element. Charging time is a key parameter for the whole system performance. The sensor node is powered when an accumulated energy threshold is reached. An experimental study of the energy harvester efficiency and charging time is realized in anechoic chamber and in a realistic indoor environment. Based on these measurements, models are developed. These models could be utilized for system design and performance analysis.
