Method of Synthesis of the Glide Path Radio Beacon Radiating System

A method for synthesizing a radiating system of a glide path radio beacon for forming a zone with a stable glide path angle at a changing snow cover level is proposed. The radiating system includes two antenna subarrays of radiating elements (RE) and a series-parallel two-channel power supply system. Each RE of the “carrier and sidebands” (CSB) signal subarray is assigned two RE of the “sidebands only” (SBO) signal subarray, forming a triple of RE on a line. The triple of RE ensures the formation of a glide path with a constant angle of inclination regardless of its suspension height relative to the flat underlying surface. The use of several triples of RE allows synthesizing radiation patterns (RP) with a low radiation level in the vicinity of the direction to the horizon, which is important for situations when the glide path radio beacon (GP) is located at an airfield in rugged terrain. To ensure the operation of the glide path radio beacon at small elevation angles, a second frequency channel is introduced using the capture effect in the system (clearance channel). This allows for a guaranteed coverage of the glide path radio beacon in space. Experimental studies at an airfield with complex terrain showed the stability of the glide path angle when changing the antenna suspension height relative to the underlying surface by 1.18 m.
