Challenges and Recent Advances towards Real-Time UAV-mounted GPR Imaging

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems on board Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are able to detect buried targets while avoiding the contact with the soil. Therefore, they are a promising solution for the detection of buried explosives, such as landmines. This contribution discusses some challenges that this technology must face to enable its usage in real operational scenarios. Furthermore, recent advances to overcome these limitations, mainly related to low acquisition speeds and high computational complexity, are also presented.
