Orientation Angle Estimation of Buildings and Streets in Urban Areas Using PolSAR Data

Recently, Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) has attracted attention in the field of earth observation. The scattering power decomposition, which is one of the PolSAR data analysis methods, can classify the earth surface targets based on the physical scattering mechanism. However, this technique has a problem of misclassification in urban areas where building walls and/or streets are not parallel to the observation orbit. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate orientation angle of them in urban areas by using a rotated dihedral model. In addition, a quantitative analysis on the estimation error of the azimuth angles is also provided.
